Modern Standard Arabic
Modern Standard Arabic is the written language across the Arab world. It’s the language of news media, literature, and published works in general. Educated Arabs often use a simplified register of this language (most notably characterized by a reduced case system) when conversing about intellectual topics.
In these lessons, I speak to you in Modern Standard Arabic as it’s naturally spoken. I provide you with plenty of input catered to your level, always using engaging topics and fun activities. I create a space for you to feel comfortable speaking, and only expect you to speak as much as you’re ready for.
The written component of the lessons likewise initially focuses on acquiring input (reading), building up to fun writing activities that allow you to express yourself in Arabic.
I focus on communicative competence and teach grammar in context, using it as a tool to help you understand the input. The grammar lessons are always short and easily understandable. In contrast to conventional approaches to teaching Modern Standard Arabic, there are no endless rules and no dry grammar drills.
